چکیده
Methods: A total of 30 Wistar male rats were randomly divided into three groups including one non-exposure group and two groups of combined cigarette smoke and coal dust. Dose of cigarette smoking was one cigarette per day. Dose of coal dust exposure was 12.5 mg/m one hour/day as PM10. Cigarette smoke was exposed prior to coal dust exposure (14 and 28 days). Exposure was done by equipment available in Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Brawijaya, Malang, East Java, Indonesia. Bone mineral element was analyzed in femur using XRay Fluorescence in Central and Physics Laboratory, State University of Malang, Malang, East Java, Indonesia. ANOVA test was used to analyze the difference levels of bone mineral elements.

A histological study on the effects of aqueous extract of Althea officinalis on epithelial and submucosal mucocilliary system of rat trachea following inhalation of cigarette smoke
The contents of cigarette smoke (gaseous and solid phases) have been attributed to a variety of diseases in the respiratory and cardiovascular systems and have been associated with development of different types of cancers. In respiratory system, these compounds specially cause epithelial cell injury, and interfere with mucocilliary transport (MTC). Various parts of Althea officinalis (family M...

متن کاملTobacco Smoke: Involvement of Reactive Oxygen Species and Stable Free Radicals in Mechanisms of Oxidative Damage, Carcinogenesis and Synergistic Effects with Other Respirable Particles
Tobacco smoke contains many toxic, carcinogenic and mutagenic chemicals, as well as stable and unstable free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the particulate and the gas phase with the potential for biological oxidative damage. Epidemiological evidence established that smoking is one of the most important extrinsic factor of premature morbidity and mortality. The objective of this ...

Objective(s):To investigate the effect of Eucheuma cottonii on alveolar macrophages (AM) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluids (BALF) in particulate matter 10 (PM10) coal dust-exposed rats. Materials and Methods: Ten groups, including a non exposed group and groups exposed to coal dust at doses of 6.25 (CD6.25), 12.5 (CD12.5), or 25 mg/m3 (CD25) an hour daily for 6 ...

Cellular changes were followed in lung cell suspensions after 175 day inhalation by rats of concentrations 30 mg/m3 or 60 mg/m3 of amosite asbestos every second day combined with daily exposure to cigarette smoke at 30 mg of total particulate matter (TPM)/m3 air. Concomitantly, lung inflammation was assessed by changes in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). A dose-dependent rise in the BAL...
